PROTOTYPE HISTORY
The Triple-Dome Tank Car is based upon a steel Freight Railcar of the typical
1930's to 1970's era. Actual prototypes examples of this type car, although
modernized, may still be in daily use by North American railroads and also
on display at some historical railroads/museums.
Tank cars stand out from other rolling stock in a consist by their appearance, functional versatility, and range in size. Their round shape sets them apart from their rectangular counterparts (i.e. Reefers, Box Cars, Stock Cars).
However, although their shape may be the minority in a consist, tank cars make up for that with their functional versatility. Being the only car that can carry materials in a gaseous, liquid, or semi-liquid form, tank cars are called in to handle such things as hydrogen, chlorine, acids, alcohols, molasses, fish oils, and juice!
Tank Cars come in a variety of lengths and volume capacity, making them
a workhorse of the rails! TRIPLE-DOME TANK CAR (ART-41600 Series) FEATURES:
